At the former École des beaux-arts at Montréal
Open daily from noon to 6 pm, Thursday extended until 9 pm.
May 1-31 2011.
The convergence between web-based art and chance is hardly news, however, with the desire for certainty guiding the development of digital technology, it is specifically the random and accidental flowing from the creation of these technologies that has inspired much of the work of web-based artists.
The online exhibition forming the Electronic arts component of the BNL MTL 2011 will feature the work of six renowned web-based artists: Mark Amerika, Gregory Chatonsky, Alison Graighead, Jhave, Martine Neddam and Jon Thompson. It will seek not only new ways of exploring the relationship between chance and digital technology, but also to solicit novel reflections on the current relationship between humans and new forms of media.
To compliment the online exhibit, and with a view to attracting sections of the audience perhaps less conversant with web-based art, the works of certain of these artists will also feature in an installation in the halls of the old École des beaux arts site of BNL MTL 2011. Computers to visit the online exhibit will also be available to viewers.
