Chance as told by children…
The Biennale de Montréal and the Ministère de l’Éducation’s program « Soutien à l’école montréalaise » are proud to present this extraordinary exhibition.
Between January and April 2011, three classes of fifth and sixth graders from two different schools met 10 times with our cultural mediator, and participated in this innovative project that allowed students to create fotonovelas. The children, in small teams, had to invent a story based on chance, held in the Biennale de Montréal 2011 location.
Once a week, Jennifer Murray, mediator and visual arts educator, went into each class to teach children the steps to follow to achieve their fotonovelas. Throughout the project, they participated in various activities that allowed them to discover the world of creation in various forms:
They learned the technical vocabulary of the comic, learned to design a scenario and a storyboard, learned to recognize the different frames in photography, played the characters in their story, photographed each image, modified them on the computer, and designed their front page ...
The children worked very hard with the help of their teachers who had the courage and enthusiasm to get into this project!
Again, children's creativity gives us visual enjoyment, the discovery of imaginary worlds, the surprise of humor, the expression of emotions and the belief that art, whatever its form, has its place in the education of our youth.
